OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1
Read this completely, including the safety precautions. Please note that the section of largest diameter is on the bottom.
STEP 2
Place the Quick Grip on the wheelhead (largest diameter section down). Hold the base section still while turning the centre and top plates. The sliders will advance inwards and grip the wheelhead.
STEP 3
Place the pot approximately in the centre of the wheelhead.
STEP 4
With the Quick Grip now firmly attached to the wheelhead, turn the top plate. The thick foam pads should be facing the middle and come into contact with the pot.
STEP 5
Gently tighten (you may have to give the pot a wriggle).
STEP 6
You are now ready to trim. Start the wheelhead gently and proceed to turn the base of your pot. N.B. If using the grip for the first time it is probably easier to start on work which may be gripped by the rim. However, when tuning larger or more rounded work the sliders are installed the other way round. This allows the insertion of the rods with the black rubber hands, pick the set of appropriate size.
WHAT TO DO WITH WOBBLY POTS!
No pot is perfectly round. If it is too far out, give the pot a quarter turn and try again.
If that does not work, put a shim of clay between the arm and the wobbly side. With a little practise this becomes easy.
It is important to change working speeds smoothly as jerky movements may dislodge the grip.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Do not have the Quick Grip spinning on the wheel without a pot in place.
Avoid entanglement of loose clothing in the radial slots of the top plate. (Keep your shirt tucked in and sleeves rolled up).
Beware when trimming not to catch your tool against the long arms.
MAINTENANCE
After each day’s work shake out the accumulated trimmings.
Clean with a damp sponge. The centre screw is set with adhesive and the Quick Grip should not normally be disassembled. If this should prove necessary, the screw can be re-fixed with "5 minute araldite", DO NOT use Locktite. Place the glue inside the threaded hole before fitting screw.
